While an A&P certificate legally allows you to work on aircraft structures and engines, modern aircraft are flying computers. Avionics technicians are in exceptionally high demand.

NCATT AET

The National Center for Aerospace & Transportation Technologies (NCATT) Aircraft Electronics Technician (AET) certification is the industry standard baseline for avionics.

  • No experience required to test.

FCC GROL

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) is legally required to make internal repairs to transmitting equipment.

  • Requires passing Elements 1 & 3.
  • Lifetime license (no renewal).

FAQ

Do I need an A&P to be an avionics tech?

Technically no, you can work under a repair station certificate. However, having both an A&P and avionics certs makes you highly competitive and significantly increases earning potential.
