CFI: The Time-Building Job
You finished your Commercial certificate at 250 hours. You need 1,500 hours for the airlines. How do you bridge the 1,250-hour gap without going bankrupt? You get paid to instruct.
The Reality
- Pay is typically strictly per flight hour ($20 - $40/hr).
- If the weather is bad, you don't fly, and you don't get paid.
- Expect to work 6 days a week to log 80-100 hours a month.
- It will take 12-18 months of grinding to hit minimums.
